Abstract

There are not so many reports published about Meniere¢¥s Disease in Far East, comparing to Western countries. We had 28 cases of Meniere¢¥s Disease from September of 1956 to March of 1960 in Presbyterian Hospital, Taegu, Korea.
Acutely exacerbated 11 cases out of 28 with typical symptoms of Meniere¢¥s Disease were successfully treated with acetazolamide (Diamox) by peros therapy. Now, we consider diamox is best.medical regimen than any others used in the past, especially, for the Meniere¢¥s Disease in acute exacerbation stage. The vestibular reflexes were recovered by this treatment: But deafness was not much -improved. The mechanism of action is discussed. This result strongly supports the current hypothesis of endolympathic idiopathic labyrinthine hydrops, so-called glaucoma of the labyrinth.
